Elevator Pitch: 

Story:

  • a take on Cinderella but set in 1910s China

  •  Cinderella’s family is a company of Chinese folk dancers 

  • her mother was a very talented and popular dancer but she passed away when Cinderella was very young

  • As cinderella grows older she becomes a better and better dancer even though the dance company is dying bc other forms of entertainment are becoming more popular 

  • Cinderella’s jealous stepmother sends away her father to recruit more dancers-

  • While he’s away, the city official has a birthday party for his son and invites the dance company to perform, but Cinderella’s stepmother prevents her from performing while her father is away- Cinderella’s mother comes as a spirit guardian and helps her get to the party to perform 

  • Impresses city official to help the dance company grow and falls in love with his son 

Character: 

  • Cinderella is a young woman- she’s a very talented folk dancer and has a loving and caring character 

  • She tries her hardest to please her father and stepmother although her stepmother is always jealous that Cinderella outshines her own children on the stage 

  • Cinderella dreams of making her late mother proud of her dancing by becoming a successful dancer 

Vehicle: 

  • The magical horseless carriage that the spirit guardian conjures for her to go the party 

  • Carriage is fit for royalty which makes an eye catching late entrance to the party 

  • Inspired by vehicles from the 1910s and also Chinese architecture and patterns 

Environment: 

  • The city hall lies in the center of the city- the roofs and bell tower remain from traditional Chinese architecture while the main body of the building is more western influenced as in the early 20th century China starts to industrialize more and some cities begin to have some western influences 

  • Big celebration- there’s a lot of lanterns and lights around the building
