Elevator Pitches:
Overarching Story: My story is about the power struggle between natural and fabricated forces. On the side of nature is the indigenous population of the island who fight for and protect the island. On the side of fabrication is the colonial invaders wishing to exploit and bend the island to their will. The central arc of the story follows two teenagers from these sides as they explore the complicated power struggle between these two sides. This story is loosely based on princess Mononoke.
Character Pitch: The character I designed is the young indigenous girl who was raised to protect the forest and cherish it. Slowly seeing the forest being exploited and ruined has caused her anger to flare. Along with the magic she wields and the forest's help she fights vigorously to defend her home and the place she loves. For reference and inspiration I drew from various indigenous peoples in china, India, and various Polynesian islands. At first I tried to stick to these cultures rigidly but as I moved further in my design process I try to let fantasy and magic influence the character more to be something unique.
Vehicle Pitch: The vehicle I have designed belongs to the character I designed. It is both a home and a boat. meant for living and protection from the elements as well as travel across long distances. Due to the jungle nature of the island it is hard to find places to inhabit, this drove the indigenous population to use boats as a form of housing as well as travel between the surrounding islands. For the reference I found various images of house boats and different Asian boats, notably the Chinese junk boat.
Environment pitch: The environment I have designed is core to the story and relates to everyone on the island. It depicts the heart of the forest. Lying at the core of the island is the heart of the forest it is the physical manifestation of the magic keeping the nature, animals, and humans on the island alive. It manifests as a giant gem covered and surrounded by nature. the indigenous population protects it with everything they can and the invaders are drawn to its power not knowing the consequences of disrupting the balance of the island.
